1.Chemical Reactions and Equations
In this chapter we study about the chemical equation, Balanced chemical equation, implications of a balanced chemical equation, types of chemical reactions, oxidation and reduction reactions. Chemical changes are the changes during which some new substance is formed.
2.Acids, bases and salts:
In this chapter, we will study the important properties of acids, bases, salts and their definitions in terms of furnishing of H+ and OH– ions, properties, examples, uses, concept of pH scale , importance of pH in everyday life; preparation and uses of Sodium Hydroxide, Bleaching powder, Baking soda, Washing soda and Plaster of Paris.
3.Metals and nonmetals
Every object around us can be categorized into two types of elements: metals or non-metals. The properties of Metals and Non-Metals and how to distinguish between them. Reactivity series; Formation and properties of ionic compounds; Basic metallurgical processes; Corrosion and its prevention are described in this chapter.
4.Carbon compounds
n this chapter, we will study the chemistry of hydrocarbons and some simple compounds containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen such as alcohols and carboxylic acids. Organic carbon compounds are far more numerous than inorganic carbon compounds. We will also learn about soaps and detergents. Since bonding in carbon compounds is generally covalent.
5.Periodic classification of elements
Arrangement of elements is known as classification of elements and it led to the formulation of periodic table, periodic table giving the arrangement of all the known elements according to their properties so that similar elements fall within the same vertical column and dissimilar elements are separated. About Modern periodic table, gradation in properties, valency, atomic number, metallic and non-metallic properties will discussed in this chapter.
